YSAs and Youths distributed food packs to the elderly

Over 60 Young Single Adults and Youth from the Singapore Stake had a pleasant encounter with the elderly when they distributed food packs to seniors living in the Moulmein-Cainhill Constituency on 26 August 2017.

YSAs, youths and seniors enjoyed it

The seniors were so happy to see them.   Some insisted that they should stay for a while to chat.  Mabel Lim, a YSA said, 'It was really heart warming to see the grateful smiles on the elderly's faces when we gave them the food packs.  I definitely see the Saviour's love for them.'

“It was an uplifting experience visiting and distributing food packs to the the seniors with fellow saints,” said Kyle Ledesma.

Casey Tan agreed and said, “I felt very good about the event. It was fun coming together as a body of YSAs and youths to spend time helping out.”

Church contributed 100 food packs

The Church contributed half of the 200 'We Care' food packs prepared by the Moulmein-Cairnhill Core Emergency Group.  Each pack consisted of noodles, Milo, canned food, biscuits and toiletry items.  The Church members who participated in the event put on the distinctive yellow 'Helping Hand' vest.  They went out in teams, led by staff members of the Community Centre who knew the seniors who were selected to receive the food packs.

Promoting inter-faith harmony

Michael Ang, Director of Public Affairs Council said, 'This is a wonderful opportunity for our Church members to work with other religious and grassroots organizations to build inter-faith harmony and at the same time help the poor and needy.'  The other sponsoring organizations were Newton Life Church, Covenant Presbyterian Church, San Yu Adventist School, Masjid Al-Falah and the Lions Club of Singapore Bedok.

Mr. Rickie Tiang, Chairman of the organizing committee said he was overwhelmed by the great number of Church members who turned up for the event. 'There must be something special about your Church members,' he added.

MP Melvin Yong presented plaque to the Church

Later in the day, Mr. Melvin Yong, Member of Parliament for Tanjong Pagar GRC, also distributed food packs with staff members of the Community Centre.  At the close of the event, he presented a plaque to President Steven Seow, 2nd Counselor in the Stake Presidency, in recognition of the Church’s contribution to the event.
