New temple president to Sydney Temple has South East Asian roots

William Fredrick Lionel Walters, 73, Claremont Meadows Ward, Penrith Australia Stake, has been called as president of the Sydney Australia Temple, succeeding President Peter R. Barr. President Walters’ wife, Marianne Botting Walters, will serve as temple matron, succeeding Sister Genivive Barr.

The Walters’ will begin their service later this year.

President Walters currently serves as second counselor in the Sydney Australia Temple presidency. He has served as president of the Singapore Mission, stake president, bishop, national public affairs director and high councilor. A retired area director for the Church Educational System, he was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to William Fredrick Walters and Laura Phyllis Ivy Bowers.

Sister Walters currently serves as assistant to the matron of the Sydney Australia Temple. She served with her husband as he presided over the Singapore Mission, and has also served as stake Relief Society president, stake public affairs director and national Public Affairs director. She was born in Noordgouwe, Zeeland, Netherlands, to Cornelis Nicolaas Botting and Anna Catharina Wondergem.
