A Tribute To Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

A Tribute To Mr. Lee Kuan Yew

To members of the Singapore Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

We, the Singapore Stake Presidency, join you in mourning the passing of Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, Singapore’s first Prime Minister, who passed away peacefully on March 23, 2015.

We also join our fellow Singaporeans in expressing our heartfelt gratitude, respect and love even as we grieve the loss of the “Father of our beloved Singapore”.

Mr. Lee was a remarkable man and leader who gave all of his life to make Singapore successful and a better place - a garden city where citizens of all races and religions live together in security, peace, harmony and economic prosperity.

He will be missed, but his legacy will live on through the examples and standards he set for himself and the rest of us.

As a Church that values and focuses on the sanctity of the family, we can appreciate the examples Mr. Lee set in raising a loving and close-knit family. He was first and foremost a loving husband and father who gave of his time to his family in spite of the heavy demands that the nation placed on him.

Mr. Lee also set many other Christ-like examples of thrift, hard work, honesty, integrity and courage. He showed great courage in the face of adversity, and persevered against all odds in his pursuit of just causes and things that mattered. Above all, his life was all about service.

King Benjamin in the Book of Mormon taught us that “when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God”. The late Mr. Lee was the epitome of that most Christ-like ideal and standard.

We can therefore honor him - and pay him the highest tribute - by fashioning our lives as he did in the service of our family, community and country.

The nation owes him a debt of gratitude.

We offer Prime Minister Lee and his family our condolences and ask all members to remember them in our prayers.

Sincerely,

Singapore Stake Presidency
