Thousands gathered in pink to support the Pink Ribbon Walk 2014. This is an annual event to raise funds and awareness for the Breast Cancer Foundation. The walk started at the Promenade Lawn at ‘Gardens by the Bay East’ and followed a 4.1km circuit that crossed over to Marina Barrage and back again.
Individuals, couples, families, sports groups, society groups, females, males and children gathered with a feeling of anticipation on the afternoon of Saturday, 27 September. Our Stake Relief Society presidency, led by Sister Woon (Stake Relief Society president), completed the walk with about 40 other participants from the Singapore Stake. It was a very hot afternoon, but the event was well organised and everyone had fun.
The Stake Relief Society were keen to participate in this year’s Pink Ribbon Walk. It gave them the opportunity to rally sufficient representatives from different Wards to assess the feasibility of next year’s participation as a Stake Relief Society service project.
Breast cancer is a female disease, but it affects the whole family when a wife, mother, daughter or sister is diagnosed. If the Relief Society decides to support this Walk next year, they would like to extend the invitation to the whole stake to participate, including the brethren and youth.
With a diagnosis of cancer, lives can be turned upside down. The journey is a tough one full of uncertainty and pain. It is made easier with the support and love of family and friends. We are grateful for the knowledge of the Plan of Salvation. Loss is always difficult, but because of the Atonement of our Saviour, Jesus Christ, it is never final.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to all those who have been, or are, affected by cancer of any kind. And our thanks go out to all those who participated in this walk for a good cause.
