The Bishopric of Choa Chu Kang Ward of Singapore Stake was re-organized on 11 January 2015. Bro Gremar Sempio has been called as the new Bishop with Bro Yee Wing Kong serving as 1st Counselor and Bro Alan Tai as the 2nd Counselor.Choa Chu Kang Ward
Bishop Gremar Sempio joined the church on 3 February 1985 during his sophomore year in secondary school. He was born and raised in Cauayan, Isabela, Philippines. When he was in his third year at university taking Computer Engineering, his father passed away. This brought financial difficulties and made it hard for his family to support his studies. Bishop Sempio worked part-time to finish his degree. Upon graduation, despite job offers from various companies and his mother’s initial misgivings, Bishop Sempio decided to serve a full-time mission to fulfil the Lord’s command. He served a full-time mission in Philippines San Pablo Mission from 1994 to 1996.Bishop Gremar Sempio
Bishop Sempio was married to Sister Abegail Sayo on 24 January 1998 at Manila Philippines Temple. They are blessed with three lovely and wonderful daughters. The Sempio family moved to Singapore in 2001 and now live in Singapore permanently. Prior to this new calling, Bishop Sempio served as 1st Counselor in the Bishopric of Choa Chu Kang Ward; he also served on the Stake High Council and in other ward callings previously. Bishop Sempio knows that God lives and Jesus Christ is his Savior and Redeemer. His favourite scripture can be found in Ether 12:27 “…for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.”for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them
Bro Yee Wing Kong joined the church in 1980 as a 17 year old student. He served a full-time mission in Singapore/Malaysia mission from 1985 to 1987. Brother Yee was married to Sister Jean Loh Mui Lang on 3 October 1988. They have remained happily married for 26+ years now and have been blessed with three lovely children; two daughters and a son. The family was happily sealed in the China Hong Kong Temple in 1997. His second daughter, Ariel Yee, is currently serving a full-time mission in Brisbane, Australia. His eldest daughter, Germaine Yee, is married and was sealed to her husband in the Manti Temple in Utah in 2010. His son, Denzel Yee, is 14 years old and currently performs his duties as a teacher in the Aaronic priesthood.Bro Yee Wing Kong
Bro Yee became a proud grandfather at 49 years old after his eldest daughter gave birth to the first of two lovely daughters, who were born respectively in 2012 and 2014. Throughout his 35 years of membership in the church, Brother Yee is grateful for the many learning opportunities as he served in various branch/district/ward level callings. Most recently, Brother Yee has served as 2nd Counselor in the Choa Chu Kang Bishopric from 1 July 2012 until the recent reorganisation in January when he was called as 1st Counselor. He has gained a personal testimony of the truthfulness of the gospel of Jesus Christ and that the Lord, Jesus Christ, is the Savior of all mankind. He firmly believes the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to be the only true church of God on the earth and is grateful for the many blessings received since he became a member of the church, despite the daily life trials and challenges. He hopes, together with his wife and children, to endure faithfully to the end.
Bro Alan Tai was baptized in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 23 February 2003. He had been a Roman Catholic since his school days. He was introduced to the Church in 2002 when a friend in Malaysia shared the Book of Mormon as another testament of Jesus Christ and gave Brother Tai a copy of the Book of Mormon along with the missionaries contact and a request that Brother Tai call the missionaries when he returned to Singapore. With curiosity heavy in his heart and mind, Brother Tai could not help but call the missionaries the next day. Within a month he listened, learned and was baptized.Bro Alan Tai
Brother Tai often feels incompetent as he serves the Lord. He leans heavily on the promises and strength from his favourite scripture in 1 Nephi 3:7, “I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”“I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.”
He strongly believes that accepting callings is one of the ways to increase faith and build a strong testimony of the Saviour. Brother Tai serves with a humble heart and has served previously in various callings in the ward and as a Stake Executive Secretary and Stake Clerk.
The newly reorganised Bishopric looks forward to serving the Choa Chu Kang ward.
