Beanies for Preemies

Beanies for Preemies

For 2014 the Singapore Stake Relief Society chose KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) and National University Hospital (NUH) as beneficiaries of the Beanie Hats Project. With the help of sisters throughout the Stake, we were able to make a total of 1886 beanies!

This project kicked off during the Compassvale Chapel open house on January 18, 2014. Sister Dorothy Chen, (Ang Mo Kio Ward) taught about 20 visitors and members how to crotchet the beanie hats.

In April and May, eight additional crochet classes were conducted for sisters who wanted to learn and participate. These classes were held at the Stake Center and Compassvale chapel. Sister Sabina Yuen (Toa Payoh Ward) and Sister Dorothy Chen were the teachers. Several Ward Relief Society sisters also organized crochet sessions after church and during enrichment meetings.

Some Young Women did this project as part of their personal progress. Members of all ages from Second Ward made 40 stuffed animals, 50 beanie hats, and 15 small pillows for NUH children’s ward. The Young Women, led by their leader, delivered these handmade gifts personally.

The project officially ended on September 30th. On October 4th, after viewing the General Women’s Session broadcast, the sisters were invited to make a guess of how many beanies were in the two bags of beanies displayed on a table. Three sisters were close to the exact number and were presented with a simple reward! Some sisters managed to bring more beanie hats which they finished after September.

On October 29th, Sister Lim and Sister Woon delivered 1886 beanie hats to Miss Caroline Kong, the KKH Communications Representative. Miss Kong expressed her appreciation on behalf of KKH.

The Stake Relief Society Presidency is grateful for all the effort and time our sisters have put into this project. We feel the strength of sisterhood as we come together to serve our community here in Singapore!
