Members from the Clementi Ward and Choa Chu Kang Ward teamed up last week to prepare 'Festive Cheers' packages for delivery to residents in two HDB rental blocks in Telok Blangah. The Southwest Community Development Council (SWCDC) sponsored the annual project to help the needy around the festive season, between Christmas and Lunar New Year
Prepared 540 food packages
On Thursday night (January 3), the volunteers gathered at Block 47 and Block 75, Telok Blangah Drive to stuff 540 packages of staple items, such as organic brown rice, chocolate drinks, vermicelli, snacks, oral hygiene kits, kitchen towels, and children games. On Saturday morning (January 5), the volunteers managed the distribution of the food packages to the residents, including carrying the package to the home of residents who requested for help.
Awesome experience
Mr. Dennis Lee, Constituency Manager for Telok Blangah said, 'Thank you for the excellent coordination and support given to us. It was an awesome experience working with such dedicated volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.'
Positive feedback
Mr. Edwin Tan, Chairman of Telok Blangah IRCC told Bishop Patrick Tan of the Clementi Ward, 'We are all very happy with the contribution of your Church members in the Festive Cheers project. The feedback all around was very positive.'
Miss Joan Lai from the Southwest Community Development Council (SWCDC) who was there throughout the project said, 'This is indeed a very good sign that members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are active in serving the community alongside with grassroots volunteers and members of other faiths.'
Non-members’ spouse came along to help
Bishop Gremar Sempio of the Choa Chu Kang Ward was very pleased with the turn out by members of his ward. He said, 'The members enjoyed participating in the project and looked forward to other ways to serve the residents in the neighbourhood. In fact, three sisters brought their non-member husbands along and they happily worked alongside with the ward members.'
